Ian Chappell calls former players Langer’s ‘PR machine’, backs Pat Cummins

Former Australia cricketer Ian Chappell has criticized former players backing Justin Langer, while supporting current Australian Test captain Pat Cummins. Not only this, Ian Chappell has called former Australian cricketers Justin Langer’s ‘PR machine’. Captain Pat Cummins has come under fire for not supporting a coach who recently led the country to T20 World Cup and Ashes series wins. At the same time, Justin Langer has resigned as the head coach of the Australian team with immediate effect.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Mitchell Johnson, Adam Gilchrist and Shane Warne have criticized Cricket Australia and national team players, especially captain Pat Cummins, for not backing Langer. At the same time, Ian Chappell told ‘Wide World of Sports’, “Cricket Australia is easy to beat because they are not that good. This kind of reaction was expected.”

He said, “I’m surprised by two things. One is that Pat Cummins, who is honest about these kinds of things, is being criticized unnecessarily, and secondly, Justin Langer’s PR machine is working and has been believed in most cases. ” Chappell said Cummins should also play a role in the appointment of Australia’s next coach. “The captain should also get a chance to express his opinion. He should get a coach with whom he can work,” he added.
