On the 161st birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, once again the issue of Nobel Prize has become hot. The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal has given a strong message to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The TMC has demanded the agency to bring back the Nobel Prize. The Chief Minister and party supremo of the state has raised this issue on several occasions.
The TMC in its mouthpiece Jago Bangla has taken a tough stand on the CBI in Tagore’s Nobel Prize theft case. According to the mouthpiece, ‘Listen CBI, we want the Nobel Prize back.’ CM Banerjee has also demanded from the central government to hand over the matter to the Bengal government. The special thing is that this matter has been published in the mouthpiece at a time when seven cases from West Bengal have been handed over to the CBI.
In 2004, Tagore’s Nobel medal from Santiniketan was stolen from Visva Bharati University. The case was then handed over to the CBI and it was closed in 2007. The special thing is that the actual medal could not be traced. In 2008, the CBI resumed the investigation of the case, but in 2009 the case was closed again.
